FIX: Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer? in Word 2013 or Excel 2013 (Solved)
The following warning message may appear when launching Microsoft Word 2013 or Excel 2013 "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?".
The User Account Control warning message "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?", can appear in any Office 2013 or Office 2010 application (e.g. Excel or PowerPoint), without an obvious reason and the user must select the "Yes" option in order to run the MS Office program, otherwise the program closes and don't run.
This tutorial contains instructions on how to remove the User Account Control warning message: "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?, in Word, Excel or PowerPoint 2010 or 2013 versions.
How to fix "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?" issue in Office 2010, 2013 applications.
1. According to the installed Office version, navigate to the following location:
- Outlook 2013 (32bit) & Windows (32bit): C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15
- Outlook 2013 (32bit) & Windows (64bit): C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15
- Outlook 2013 (64bit) & Windows (64bit): C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15
- Outlook 2010 (32bit) & Windows (32bit): C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14
- Outlook 2010 (32bit) & Windows (64bit): C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14
- Outlook 2010 (64bit) & Windows (64bit): C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14
2. Right click at the Office application ("WINWORD.EXE", "EXCEL.EXE", "POWERPNT.EXE") where you face the "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?" issue and select Properties.
4. At Compatibility tab, click Change settings for all users:
5. At 'Compatibility for all users' options:
a. Uncheck the "Run this program in compatibility mode…" checkbox.
b. Uncheck the "Run the program as an administrator" checkbox.
C. Click OK twice to close all windows.
6. Now launch the Office application. The "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?" should be gone. *
* Note: If the issue persists, when launching the Office application from its icon (shortcut), then apply the same steps to the icon (shortcut).
