Comment on How to Get the Classic Windows 10 Start menu in Windows 11. by SteveO https://www.wintips.org/how-to-get-the-classic-windows-10-start-menu-in-windows-11/#comment-516344 Mon, 27 Nov 2023 12:30:32 +0000 https://www.wintips.org/?p=49128#comment-516344 I've tried for a few months to get used to the Win11 start menu, reflecting the thoughtful comments of Bart Hofland above, but sadly, the new layout is just not functional enough to satisfy anyone using more than a few software packages, let alone a "power user", which I guess I am. There are some improvements to Win11 that I like, and overall I think it is perhaps a slight improvement over Win10, but the start menu is the main entry-point to the OS, and it fails badly.

It's the simple things like poor efficiency of space use, inability to remove nametags from beneath icons, the unwanted, empty "recommended" section, and so on. If we don't want to do the additional mouse location and click-through, then trawl through the "all apps" list for anything that doesn't fit on the main start menu, we're forced to bundle icons into folders which then display a maximum of four tiny, weeny icons, with each folder having acres of pristine, creamy real estate languishing unsullied in between them. It really makes no sense at all.

Comment on FIX: Microsoft Store Error 0x800704cf – It Doesn't Look Like you're Connected to the Internet. (Solved) by Howard https://www.wintips.org/fix-microsoft-store-error-0x800704cf-it-doesnt-look-like-youre-connected-to-the-internet/#comment-516046 Sat, 25 Nov 2023 20:29:14 +0000 https://www.wintips.org/?p=37701#comment-516046 Thank you so much. Temporarily changed my DNS back to DHCP to validate the software, and then returned it back to what it was. Can't understand 1) Why it's got to use DHCP, and 2) if it has to, then why can't ANY Microsoft agents give this simple bit of advice rather than resetting the network, reinstalling, etc, etc. Loads of people change their adapter settings for various reasons.

Thanks for your observation. The article has been updated.
No, removing the keys does not affect NOIDIA & Intel apps.
At your case I suggest to try Method-4

Comment on FIX: Right Click Not Working in Windows 10 (Solved) by Dan Yazbek https://www.wintips.org/fix-right-click-not-working-in-windows-10-solved/#comment-515503 Wed, 22 Nov 2023 15:31:50 +0000 https://www.wintips.org/?p=37710#comment-515503 Regarding Method 2:

I think you should advise to make backup of the ContextMenueHandlers key before making any changes to the registry.

Also, will the removal of the Intel and NVIDIA keys have any adverse effects on those applications?

I have that problem now with the right mouse button not working on the start on the left end of the task bar. It seems to work fine everywhere else.

I have tried all of the other methods and they had no effect.

Comment on How to fix DISM 0x800f081f Error in Windows 10/8 (Solved) by GeoffW https://www.wintips.org/fix-dism-0x800f081f-error-in-windows-10-8/#comment-514685 Fri, 17 Nov 2023 05:00:57 +0000 https://www.wintips.org/?p=28421#comment-514685 Worked a charm on my Windows 10 Home system which has been unable to download and install updates. After weeks of trying many unclear or useless methods, I was starting to lose my hair!
Even got to the point of an online session with Microsoft, where they wanted me to reinstall Windows which would have dumped my Apps and much of my data files!! As usual, they tend to take the easy way out for them.
My instinct told me that wasn't the right way to go and, today I stumbled across this solution – it works!!
Although fingers crossed, Windows Update is lingering on 2% download of 22H2 update but, before this solution, it wouldn't go past 0%.
Now to tackle the issue I have with Microsoft Store not downloading or installing Apps (I hope this solution also fixes that problem).

Comment on FIX: Cannot type in Windows 10 Search bar. (Solved) by s. krahn https://www.wintips.org/fix-cannot-type-in-windows-10-search-bar/#comment-514526 Thu, 16 Nov 2023 07:08:24 +0000 https://www.wintips.org/?p=41384#comment-514526 ]]> Thank-you for your useful advice right at the beginning with solution # 1. It's not necessary to press the combination of shift, ctrl and esc if the Task Manager is in one's Task bar, so all that was required was to select Processes, then Windows Explorer, and from there Restart and voila! back in business. Thanks again from Stacey👧
